Contract terms
A standard contract will be supplied upon engagement. Its purpose is to provide evidence of a specified agreement between parties (the freelance session musician and client in need of recording work to be carried out).
The contract shall refer to:
1) Reference of the term and territory for which it is to cover.
2) Stipulations for the musician (such as: arriving in advance of the agreed upon time, ready to record or play live as agreed in advance; the recording of agreed material, subject to any restrictions applicable under relevant legal frameworks; bringing along any equipment that has been specified in the agreement.
3) Stipulations for the client (such as: terms and schedule of payment, not less than £215 per session paid within 30 days of completion; any further implications to royalties received beyond the scope of the original work (such as covered in UK law).
4) Terms of cancellation by either the client (full pay for the musician if notified less than 48 hours in advance, half pay within 21 days) or the musician (written communication more than 24 hours in advance and every effort made to replace with a substitute subject to client's acceptance. The musician will bear the cost of the excess if their chosen substitute requires a higher rate). Rescheduling can take place instead if both parties agree to the new date and time.
5) Any dress requirements should be communicated to the musician at least 14 days in advance, and any costs outside normal working clothing should be funded by the client.
